The Noble Quest

Raised by the greatest sorcerers in all the land, a timid, young boy sets out on a quest to prove his strength. He battles his way to the castle, riding upon his valiant steed and yielding an ancient blade of magic. The secrets to revealing his ancestral powers remain hidden within the castle walls. He must reach it before a brutal storm takes over.

I began my process for this painting by laying out very rough shapes using the lasso tools and different brushes. I tend to gravitate toward this technique of developing environment artwork. I find it easier to visualize what something can be based on form, rather than always starting with a sketch. I was initially inspired by the beautiful world of legend of zelda for the main idea; but as I keep painting and developing the mood and atmosphere, I always let my ideas run free to try and create something unique.
